Freezer Smoothies

We just had the most productive 3 hours!  So productive that I am able to start this blog post before the kids go to bed!  We had a fun weekend, but the house suffered. . . and for three hours we suffered. BUT laundry is well in hand, rooms and floors are picked up, dishes are done, and Smoothies are made!

With Fall officially here and preschool already underway, I am especially looking for something to give my girls immune system a little boost.  (We have already been through a round of antibiotics this season).  Our girls love smoothies.  And it is super easy to hide some veggies in those!

I wanted to be sure that my girls got a good dose of fruit/veggies in them at least once a day.  Sometimes we just run out of willpower. . . time to eat clean.  After talking to my friend about freezer meals and getting a few tips I decided I would get some canning jars and make smoothies once a week and stick them in the freezer so I could always have them on hand.

I found these nice little 8 ounce jelly jars that are perfect for the girls!  I have a dozen of them so I have enough smoothies for 6 days.  I would love to get more, but for now this gets me through the busy week.  Now the question is, what do I put in their smoothies??  Whatever I have on-hand!  This week it happened to be  Organic Baby Spinach, Antioxidant Blend of organic fruits, Bananas, and Cherry Juicy Juice (Normally I use a splash of orange juice instead, but I only had this juice in the house).  Our preference is to buy Organic as much as possible.  If I'm taking the time to make my kids smoothies, I would like them as pesticide free as I can get them.

You can use a blender, food processor, smoothie maker, whatever you have!  We have a Nutribullet and LOVE IT.  We are on our second Nutribullet. . . did I drop it? Did I not drop it?. . .  Luckily it was still under the manufacturer warranty and we were able to get a second one for shipping.

Sneaking in the Spinach.  I only sneak in a little bit.  I would rather have them drink their entire smoothie than suspect something and not drink much of it.

Adding in the fruit to the max line

Usually I add only a splash of juice, sometimes none at all.  I added a little extra this time.

Then I fill the rest of the way with water.

Here it is ready to Go!

15 seconds later we have a smoothie.

One Large Nutribullet cup fills 4- 8 ounce jars.  I like this, because if I want to make a variety of
smoothies I can.
Toss the lids on and label.  (mine is labeled in some random code. . . I might remember what it means later) ;)

The next set of smoothies I added a banana to them.

 Stuck with the Spinach

And Fruit, juice, water.

Here are the weeks worth of Smoothies.  Took me 15-20 minutes total and now our girls will have a good dose of fruits/veg at least once a day no matter how busy we may get.

I stuck two in the fridge for tomorrow.  The rest go in the big freezer.
Tomorrow I will pull two more out for the next day. . . and so on.  I normally give them to
the girls with lunch.  I remove the lids and toss a straw in. Done.

If I remember, I put in 1/4 to 3/4 tsp of probiotic into their smoothies.  To read the health benefits of using probiotics, click here.  You can always just add some yogurt to your smoothie as well.

Someone asked me to take a picture of her drinking her "Poovie" (smoothie).  The smoothie Hammie is drinking is one of my favorites!!  It is Strawberries, Chocolate Milk (Trumoo this time), and a tablespoon of Peanut Butter.  DELICIOUS.  We don't eat a lot of meat so I like the protein the girls get from the peanut butter.

This was my second week of freezing a weeks worth of smoothies and it is a huge time saver!

If you enjoyed this post, share it!
