A Healthier Halloween

I've had some inquiries about what has been happening in my kitchen this apple season. . . I promise, I will get to that. . . but this is not that post.  Since Halloween is right around the corner it is only right to discuss all that candy!
I will start with a few questions I've gotten about our own family's Halloween traditions:

Do our kids trick or treat?  OF COURSE!

Do we limit the number of houses our kids go to?  HECK NO!  Getting the candy is probably more fun than eating the candy!

Do we let them keep all of the candy?  You mean what we don't eat ourselves?  SURE!  Honestly, after Halloween night, candy is not the first thing on their minds and they start to forget.  Besides, you can always freeze it for later on in the year!  If you don't want to keep all of the candy there are great programs out there where you can donate your candy, like Operation Gratitude.  Even your local Dentist's office might take your candy for some fun prizes instead.

However, I DO try to sneak in healthy things among all of the junk!  Now with Pinterest , you can find so many great alternatives to candy (even if you don't have a lot of time to get crafty). I will share with you what The Princess and I are doing for her own Preschool Halloween Party and  I will also share with you some of my favorite Pinterest finds.

Last year after seeing the amount of candy our daughter can accumulate in one day between preschool and trick or treating I decided that this year I would be the mom to throw in something a little better for the body to hopefully help those tummies recover from the festivities.  I'm not saying I'm going to be handing out toothbrushes (yet), but something cute and fun.

I decided it was possible to be healthy and fun after talking to my good friend and health conscious mommy of two boys.  She is making up little treat bags of Pretzels, Glo Sticks, Halloween pencils and stamps.  A little treat and something fun! Perfect!  So that's what I was going for this year.  Although, next year I'm adding Glo Sticks to mine!

I found these cute little coloring books about a month ago and decided they would go well with whatever I decided to do.  They come with two little crayons and a sticker :)

Those that know me know I love a good craft project!  I like getting my girls involved and making memories with them.  Simple school treats turn into a fun morning spent with my girls. I won't forget it and I know they won't forget the time spent together either.  Mummy Juice boxes!!  Thanks again, Pinterest!
Juicy Juice Boxes wrapped in white crepe paper and self adhesive googly eyes.
The girls and I had quite the assembly line going!  The Princess stuck eyes on, taped straws, packed bags, and cut ribbon.  AND wrote her name 16 times.
We also stuck in a bag of Organic Annie's Fruit Snacks
Found these adorable free printable tags at this cute Shoppe

Thanks to The Honest Company and their cute promotional bag this month, our treats have a cute little home until they are delivered. :)

Have a Happy, Healthy Halloween!

*Ironically, I ate ice cream while I wrote this post. . . it was Breyers so that counts for something, right?
